Bo Nix Says He Won't Hesitate to Scramble on Surgically Repaired Ankle
The Broncos quarterback, who had two procedures on his right ankle after fracturing it in the playoffs, says his mobility remains 'a strength of ours.'
Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix said he will not hesitate to scramble on his surgically repaired right ankle this season, telling reporters at training camp that his mobility remains a core part of his game. Asked if the injury would limit his willingness to run, Nix said flatly: "Absolutely not."
What happened to the ankle?
Nix fractured his right ankle in the final minutes of Denver's AFC divisional-round win over Buffalo and had surgery immediately afterward. He underwent a second procedure in April to clean up bone spurs in the same ankle, which limited his throwing at June minicamp and cut into most of his offseason work.
How is he approaching contact now?
Nix was clear that he intends to play his usual style. "I'm going to roll [out]. I'm going to be as athletic as I can be," he said. "It's a strength of ours and so we've got to use our strengths. For me, that's when I feel at my best, that's when I feel free." He added that he currently feels "great, feel normal, nothing's holding me back out there."
How much does his legs matter to Denver's offense?
Nix rushed for 356 yards last season, third-most on the team, and scored five rushing touchdowns, second-most. Coach Sean Payton has called his mobility "one of his superpowers," underscoring why a full recovery matters beyond just his ability to throw.
