Alohi Gilman has steadily built a reputation as one of the more physical, versatile safeties in the league since entering the NFL as a sixth-round pick. Now with the Kansas City Chiefs, he arrives fresh off a career year split between two teams.
Path to the league
Gilman transferred to Notre Dame from Navy in 2017 and, after sitting out a year per transfer rules, became an immediate playmaker for the Irish defense. Over his final two collegiate seasons he racked up 169 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, three interceptions and six forced fumbles, earning All-America recognition from Pro Football Focus following the 2018 season. The Los Angeles Chargers drafted him 186th overall in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Gilman spent his first several NFL seasons with the Chargers, developing into a reliable tackler and special-teams contributor before being dealt to the Baltimore Ravens midway through the 2025 season in a trade that sent pass rusher Odafe Oweh the other way. He signed a three-year, $24.75 million deal with the Chiefs in 2026 that included $15 million fully guaranteed.

Gilman started all 17 games for the first time in his career in 2025, splitting the season between the Chargers and Ravens after the October trade. He posted 90 total tackles, nine passes defended, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and an 84-yard interception return for a touchdown.
