Cut loose by Cleveland, Cameron Mitchell found new life with the Colts, stepping into meaningful snaps at cornerback after a midseason waiver claim.

Cameron Mitchell's path to Indianapolis wasn't a straight line. Drafted by the Browns out of Northwestern, he was waived in 2025 before the Colts scooped him up off the practice squad and turned him into a contributor when injuries hit their cornerback room.

Path to the league

Mitchell was a two-year starter at Northwestern, leading the Wildcats with 10 pass breakups in his final season and totaling 52 tackles in 2022 along with two career interceptions. The Cleveland Browns selected him in the fifth round (No. 142 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

After his rookie contract with Cleveland didn't pan out into a lasting role, Mitchell was waived in 2025. Indianapolis claimed him and stashed him on the practice squad before a wave of injuries at cornerback opened a path to the active roster.

2025 season recap

Mitchell was elevated to the Colts' active roster on October 11, 2025, and went on to appear in eight games, recording 18 tackles and four passes defensed on 225 defensive snaps. His play down the stretch was strong enough that Indianapolis brought him back for another season.
