Daniel Jones is the Indianapolis Colts' starting quarterback, who engineered a breakout 2025 before a season-ending Achilles injury.
Jones was the sixth overall pick out of Duke in 2019 and spent his first six seasons with the New York Giants. He signed with the Colts in 2025 and revived his career, winning the starting job and leading a high-scoring offense. A torn Achilles in December cut his season short, but Indianapolis rewarded him with a long-term extension.
Path to the league
Jones played for the Duke Blue Devils, where he started for three seasons under David Cutcliffe. The Giants selected him sixth overall in 2019 and he became their starter as a rookie. He led New York to a playoff win in the 2022 season before his Giants tenure ended.
2025 season
Jones signed a one-year, $14 million deal with the Colts and was named the Week 1 starter. He went 8-5 as a starter, completing 68 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns while leading one of the league's most efficient offenses, per ESPN. On December 7, he tore his right Achilles against Jacksonville and missed the rest of the year.
Contract and recovery
Indianapolis placed the transition tag on Jones in March 2026 and then signed him to a two-year, $88 million extension. By the spring, he was throwing at OTAs less than six months after surgery and told reporters he expected to be ready for Week 1, per reporting.
