A former William & Mary linebacker who reinvented himself as a long snapper, Luke Rhodes has become a two-time All-Pro anchor of Indianapolis' special teams.
Luke Rhodes' path to NFL stardom took an unusual turn: signed as an undrafted linebacker, he was converted to long snapper by the Colts and has since become one of the best in the league at the position. Now in his 10th season, he remains Indianapolis' full-time snapper.
Path to the league
Rhodes started 45 of 47 games as a linebacker at William & Mary, finishing his career with 341 tackles, five sacks, an interception and six forced fumbles. He earned three selections to the All-CAA First Team and was the only FCS player named to the 2015 Butkus Award watch list. Rhodes signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2016 but was released, then converted to long snapper by the Colts, winning the job outright in August 2017.
Career highlights
Rhodes was named a second-team Associated Press All-Pro in both 2020 and 2021, and in 2021 became the first Colts long snapper named to the Pro Bowl since Matt Overton in 2013. He has twice signed contract extensions that made him the NFL's highest-paid long snapper, most recently a four-year, $6.465 million deal in September 2023.
2025 season recap
Rhodes continued his steady run in 2025, posting the 13th-highest special teams grade among long snappers per Pro Football Focus and recording three solo tackles on coverage units. He was also named the Colts' nominee for the NFL's 2025 Salute to Service Award.
