NFL Point Spread
Bet the margin, not just the winner.
The point spread handicaps the favorite by a number of points to even out the action. The favorite must win by more than the spread to cover; the underdog can lose by less than the spread and still cash. A -6.5 favorite needs a seven-point win; a +6.5 underdog covers by losing by six or fewer, or winning outright. The hook (the .5) exists to avoid pushes. Spreads are the backbone of NFL betting.
Example
Eagles -3.5 vs. Cowboys +3.5: Philadelphia must win by four or more; Dallas covers by staying within three or winning.
