Bears' Poles, Johnson Frustrated by Kyler Gordon's Latest Injury

The cornerback opens camp on PUP with a calf injury after playing just 11% of Chicago's snaps in 2025, one year into a $40 million extension.

Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list with a calf injury, and general manager Ryan Poles didn't hide the frustration building around the situation. "He's frustrated, we're frustrated," Poles said, adding that the team just wants Gordon back on the field.

How much has Gordon actually played?

Injuries have been the defining issue of Gordon's recent seasons. Hamstring, calf and groin problems limited him to just 11% of Chicago's defensive snaps in 2025, a steep drop for a player the Bears view as a core piece of their secondary when healthy.

What did Ben Johnson say?

The head coach kept his message to Gordon short and direct: "Get healthy." Johnson has been candid that Gordon's lack of availability has been a real problem for the defense, which performs noticeably better with him on the field when he's able to play.

Why does the timing sting?

Gordon signed a three-year, $40 million extension with $31.25 million guaranteed, and this is technically the first season of that new deal. Opening camp on PUP instead of building on the extension is not the start either side was hoping for.
