Bills to Address Sightline Complaints After New Stadium's First Public Test
A record crowd of nearly 52,000 attended Saturday's open practice at the new Highmark Stadium, but some fans flagged views obstructed by railings and structural elements.
The Buffalo Bills said they're working through feedback about sightlines at the new Highmark Stadium after Saturday's "Return of the Blue & Red" open practice, the venue's first public test, drew a record 51,807 fans out of a 60,108 capacity.
What did fans complain about?
Viral photos from the event showed seats with views obstructed by railings, stairway structures and the press box. Some fans also flagged undersized video boards and steep ascents to upper-level seating.
How is the team responding?
In an official statement, the Bills said: "Thank you to Bills Mafia for setting a new attendance record with more than 50,000 fans at the Return of the Blue & Red. Saturday's practice was a great opportunity to test the new stadium. We are currently addressing internal and external feedback regarding the facility's operation following the first event. We'll utilize the next six weeks to refine any details as we prepare for the home opener on Thursday, September 17."
How widespread is the issue?
Team president Pete Guelli said complaints came from fewer than 1% of personal seat license holders, describing most feedback as "overwhelmingly positive." Some of the affected seats reportedly won't be sold for football games and will instead be reserved for concerts and other events.
