Calais Campbell Breaks Silence After Mother's Death, Brother's Murder Charge
The Ravens defensive end thanked fans for their support after a tragedy that kept him away from the start of training camp, saying football 'brings me joy' as his family works through it.
Baltimore Ravens defensive end Calais Campbell spoke publicly for the first time about the death of his mother and the murder charge against his brother, thanking fans for their support during what he called a tough few months.
What happened?
Campbell's mother, Nateal Campbell, 71, was found dead at her home in Atlanta on June 30, 2026, during a welfare check. His brother, Ciarre Campbell, 41, was arrested and charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during commission of a felony. Ciarre Campbell has only been charged, not convicted, and the case is ongoing.
What is the current legal status?
Ciarre Campbell appeared in Fulton County court in July, where his attorney withdrew a bond request, meaning he remains in Fulton County Jail without bond as the case proceeds. No trial date has been reported.
What did Calais Campbell say?
"I just want to say that these last couple months have been tough for me and my family. But we're working through it. And I appreciate all of the love, support and prayers," Campbell said, asking for continued prayers for his family. He was excused from the start of Ravens training camp and didn't return to practice until early August.
