Tuli Tuipulotu Holding In as Chargers Extension Talks Continue
Coming off a career year with 13 sacks, the fourth-year edge rusher is sitting out practice in the final season of his rookie deal, doing individual work away from the team.
Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Tuli Tuipulotu is holding in at training camp, continuing to sit out team practice while working individually with trainers as he enters the final year of his rookie contract without an extension in place.
What is he coming off?
Tuipulotu had a career year in 2025, recording 13.0 sacks and 23 quarterback hits, including a four-sack game against the Giants and three multi-sack outings on the season. That kind of production is exactly why the Chargers have an incentive to get a new deal done before he can test free agency.
Did he signal this was coming?
Yes. Tuipulotu indicated at minicamp that he wouldn't rule out holding in if a new contract wasn't finalized before camp opened, and that's exactly what has played out.
What is the team saying?
Coach Jim Harbaugh has declined to confirm the absence is directly tied to contract negotiations, saying only that it's being "handled internally" and repeatedly describing Tuipulotu's participation as "ramping up" rather than characterizing it as a standoff.
