Derek Carr Joins UCLA as Special Adviser to Coach Bob Chesney

UCLA announced Monday that former NFL quarterback Derek Carr is joining the program as a special adviser to head coach Bob Chesney, helping with offensive game-planning and working directly with the team's quarterbacks.
What's the scope of the role?
Carr will assist Chesney's offensive staff and work in a volunteer capacity with UCLA's quarterback room, including presumptive starter Nico Iamaleava, a Tennessee transfer and Long Beach native who threw for 1,928 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
What's Carr's NFL background?
Carr retired from the NFL in May 2025 after an 11-year career, spending 2014 through 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders before finishing with the New Orleans Saints from 2023 to 2024.
Why UCLA?
The move brings Carr back to his Southern California roots to help shape the next generation of the program's quarterbacks under Chesney, who took over the Bruins this offseason.
