Bijan Robinson Signs Three-Year, $75 Million Extension With Falcons

The deal includes $51 million guaranteed, the most ever for a non-rookie running back contract, ending his hold-in and making him the NFL's highest-paid back.

Bijan Robinson signed a three-year extension with the Atlanta Falcons worth up to $75 million, including $51 million guaranteed, the most guaranteed money ever given to a non-rookie running back deal. The sides agreed Tuesday and the contract became official Wednesday morning, ending Robinson's hold-in and making him the league's highest-paid back.

Why did he want to stay in Atlanta?

Robinson made clear he wanted to spend his whole career with one team, citing Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan as examples. "This is one of my dreams, to stay with one team," he said.

How did the hold-in play out?

Robinson and Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who was going through a parallel hold-in of his own, leaned on each other during the process. "We just told each other, 'Just hang in there, everything's going to get done, everything's going to be all right,'" Robinson said.

What's the Matthew McConaughey connection?

The actor, a Texas Longhorns superfan known as the school's "Minister of Culture," was among the first to reach out once news of the deal broke. "As soon as the news hit, Matthew McConaughey hit me. As soon as it hit. I think it hit at like 7:56 [a.m.]. Like 7:58, he texted me," Robinson said. "A lot of awesome, really cool people texted me, but it was cool to see him, as soon as it hit, like, he was the first one." The two connected when Robinson visited Austin as a high school recruit in 2019 and grew closer during his final season at Texas in 2022.
