Rob Gronkowski returns as Snake Pit grand marshal for the 2026 Indy 500

The four-time Super Bowl champion will headline the Coors Light Snake Pit infield festival on May 24 for the second straight year.

Rob Gronkowski is back at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The four-time Super Bowl champion will reprise his role as grand marshal of the Coors Light Snake Pit on Sunday, May 24, for the second consecutive Indy 500. IndyCar made the announcement on Monday.

What exactly is the Snake Pit?

The Snake Pit is the IMS infield electronic dance music festival that runs alongside the Indy 500. It sits adjacent to Turn 3, draws roughly 35,000 fans each year, and operates as a separate ticket from the race itself. The festival has been part of Indy 500 weekend in some form since the 1970s. The current EDM-anchored version launched in 2010.

Who is performing in 2026?

Zedd is the headliner. The Grammy Award-winning DJ and producer is joined on the bill by Crankdat, Wooli, it's murph, and Wax Motif. The festival runs from late morning into the early evening, finishing roughly an hour after the race winner is crowned.

What does Gronkowski actually do?

The grand marshal role includes opening the gates, kicking off the day with a series of crowd activations, and introducing the headlining act onstage. Gronkowski was a fixture last year, including a much-circulated clip of him stage-diving during Diplo's set. IndyCar's press release for 2026 specifically references his 'high-energy crowd interaction' as the reason for bringing him back.

Why Gronk?

Gronkowski is a four-time Super Bowl champion and a current studio analyst for FOX Sports. He has spent his post-NFL career building a brand around live event appearances (his birthday party in Miami remains a tabloid staple) and partnerships with national alcohol and snack brands. The Snake Pit booking fits the same lane: large outdoor event, party-forward audience, recognizable face.

What's the broader race story?

The 2026 Indy 500 will be the 110th running of the race. Pat O'Ward starts on pole. The field includes seven former winners, headlined by Josef Newgarden (2023, 2024) and Helio Castroneves (four-time champ, racing in what he says is his final 500). Coverage starts at 11 a.m. ET on Fox.
