San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, and resolved the case a day later by pleading no contest to an amended misdemeanor charge, with coach Kyle Shanahan saying the situation has had no impact on the team.
What was he arrested for, and how was it resolved?
York was initially arrested on a misdemeanor charge of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools, with the underlying allegation being that he responded to an undercover ad and agreed to exchange $140 for sexual activity. He pleaded no contest Monday under a plea agreement that amended the prostitution count to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. His sentence was one day in jail per charge, with one day already deemed served, plus fines totaling $1,150. The local prosecutor described the resolution as routine for this type of charge given York had no prior record. The case is now resolved.
What did Shanahan say?
"From a football standpoint, it has no effect on us. I mean, as far as what we do day to day, what we talk about and [it] hasn't been mentioned in a meeting today, it doesn't have to do with what happens on the field," Shanahan said, calling it a "very, very personal situation" and noting he'd spoken with York multiple times since. Linebacker Fred Warner also said it has had little impact on the team's on-field focus.
