New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was held out of Thursday's preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a sore ankle he suffered in practice earlier in the week. Coach Aaron Glenn called it "nothing to be alarmed about" and said Smith is day-to-day.

Rookie Cade Klubnik got the primary reps and led two scoring drives, finishing 5 of 7 passing for 56 yards. His first drive included completions to tight end Mason Taylor and receiver Garrett Wilson before settling for a 27-yard Cade York field goal. His second drive opened with a completion to rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. and was capped by a 31-yard Braelon Allen touchdown run.
