Nick Chubb Announces Retirement After 8 NFL Seasons
The four-time Pro Bowler closes his career on a playoff run with the Texans, saying he wanted to go out 'on a healthy note' after a serious 2023 knee injury.
Nick Chubb announced his retirement Friday night in a social media post, closing out an eight-season NFL career split between Cleveland and Houston. "I'm finally ready to share that I'm done playing football," he wrote, saying he wanted to "end my career on a healthy note, along with a winning season."
What did his career look like?
Chubb spent seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns (2018-2024), rushing for 6,843 yards with four straight 1,000-yard seasons and a Pro Bowl selection in each of those years. A severe knee injury in 2023 ended that season early and required multiple surgeries, a recovery that shapes the "healthy note" framing of his retirement.
How did his final season go?
Chubb spent 2025 with the Houston Texans, starting as the lead back before being passed by rookie Woody Marks as the season progressed. He averaged 33.7 rushing yards over 15 games with three touchdowns. Houston finished 12-5 and reached the divisional round, letting Chubb close his career with a playoff run.
