Packers' Edgerrin Cooper Has Torn Achilles, Out for the Season
An MRI confirmed the tear a day after Cooper went down without contact at Tampa Bay. He led Green Bay in tackles for loss and had a sack and an interception in the game before he was hurt.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper tore his Achilles tendon in Sunday's 17-14 win at Tampa Bay and will miss the rest of the season, sources told ESPN after an MRI on Monday.
How did it happen?
With 8:31 left in the third quarter, Cooper appeared to be blitzing when he went down with no one near him, reached for his lower left leg and could not put weight on it. He was carted off. Before the injury he had nine tackles, a sack and an interception in the game.
What do the Packers lose?
Their most disruptive linebacker. Through three games Cooper had 21 tackles, a team-high six tackles for loss and two sacks. A second-round pick in 2024, he is in his third season. Green Bay is 2-2 and hosts Chicago on Sunday.
