A former Army Black Knight and West Point graduate who took an unconventional road from the triple-option to a Super Bowl LIX ring with Philadelphia.
Brett Toth's path to the NFL ran through the United States Military Academy, where he studied physics and nuclear engineering while playing in an offense that rarely threw the ball. After years bouncing among practice squads and rosters, he won a championship with the Eagles before joining San Francisco.
Path to the league
Toth played for Army from 2014-2017, becoming the first Black Knights player to appear in the Senior Bowl. Because Army's triple-option attack rarely called for pass protection, he had to learn the skill essentially from scratch as a pro. He graduated as a second lieutenant, later received a deferment of his service commitment, and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
Career highlights
Toth's NFL journey included stops with the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers sandwiched around multiple stints in Philadelphia. He also served as an ROTC instructor at Arizona State and Temple while continuing to pursue his football career.
