Caleb Ransaw spent three seasons at Troy before a one-year stop at Tulane turned him into one of the fastest-rising defensive backs in the 2025 draft class. The Jaguars took him in the third round and immediately projected him as a starting safety, banking on the athleticism that made him one of the combine's biggest standouts.
Path to the league
Ransaw played his first three college seasons at Troy, becoming a full-time starter in 2023 with 51 tackles, an interception and honorable mention All-Sun Belt honors. He transferred to Tulane for 2024, where he played mostly nickel corner, posting 33 tackles and earning third-team All-American Athletic Conference recognition while allowing just 11 catches on 24 targets in coverage.

Ransaw's standout combine performance, a 4.33-second 40-yard dash that ranked third among all defensive backs, along with elite broad jump and vertical numbers, helped cement his third-round selection at pick 88, making him the second-earliest Tulane player drafted since Matt Forte in 2008. 2025 season recap
Jacksonville moved Ransaw to safety as a rookie, with general manager James Gladstone stating the plan was to start him there and let him work in and out of the full defensive back rotation. He wears No. 27 and remained on Jacksonville's active roster through his first pro season.
