Chris Manhertz is a New York Giants tight end and one of the NFL's premier blocking specialists, a former college basketball player who never played college football.
Manhertz took an unusual road to the NFL, starring in basketball at Canisius before switching to football. He has built a long career as a blocking tight end and an eligible receiver who can hold up in the run game. He re-signed with the Giants on a one-year deal in 2025.
Path to the league
Manhertz played college basketball for the Canisius Golden Griffins from 2010 to 2014, serving as a three-year captain. He had never played organized football and began training to switch sports after graduating. He worked his way into the NFL as an undrafted blocking tight end.
2025 season
Manhertz signed a one-year contract extension with the Giants on March 8, 2025. He continued in his role as the team's blocking tight end and an extra eligible receiver. In 2024 he played all 17 games with 11 starts, catching three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.
