A relentless edge rusher out of Duke, Chris Rumph II finally played a full 17-game slate in 2025 and turned in career-best numbers.
Chris Rumph II has spent his career grinding as a rotational pass rusher, and in 2025 that persistence paid off with the healthiest and most productive season of his six years in the league. Now with New Orleans, he is reunited with a coordinator who knows exactly how to use him.
Path to the league
Rumph played four seasons at Duke from 2017 to 2020, totaling 125 tackles, 34 tackles for loss and 17.5 sacks over 36 games. He earned second-team All-ACC honors as a senior in 2020 after a third-team nod in 2019, when he led the Blue Devils with 6.5 sacks. The Los Angeles Chargers drafted him in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Rumph spent his first several seasons as a situational pass rusher for the Chargers before signing with the New Orleans Saints as an unrestricted free agent in April 2025, reuniting with defensive coordinator Brandon Staley from their time together in Los Angeles.
2025 season recap
Rumph played all 17 games for the first time in his career in 2025, setting personal bests with 35 total tackles, 19 solo stops and three tackles for loss. He also recorded his first career forced fumble and added 14 special-teams tackles.
