Cody Barton has developed into one of the more productive tackling linebackers in football, stacking three consecutive 100-plus tackle seasons across two franchises. Tennessee signed him to a rich free-agent deal in 2025 to bring that production to their defense.
Path to the league
Barton started 23 of 50 games across his Utah career, racking up 234 tackles, nine sacks and an interception for the Utes. The Seattle Seahawks drafted him in the third round, 88th overall, in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Barton broke into Seattle's starting lineup alongside Jordyn Brooks in 2022, posting a career-high 136 tackles that year. He is one of only five NFL linebackers over a recent three-year stretch to record 100-plus tackles in each season while totaling five or more interceptions, a run that continued after he signed with Denver and then Tennessee.
2025 season recap
Barton signed a three-year, $21 million deal with the Titans in 2025 free agency after posting 106 tackles the year before in Denver. He stepped into Tennessee's starting linebacker spot and continued his streak of high-volume tackling production.
