A fifth-round West Virginia product who fought through the depth chart to become San Francisco's starting right tackle and a Super Bowl LVIII participant.
Colton McKivitz has spent his entire career with the 49ers since San Francisco landed him in the 2020 draft using the pick acquired for Matt Breida. After years as a versatile backup, he broke through as a full-time starter and has since anchored the right side of the 49ers' line.
Path to the league
McKivitz was a four-year starter at West Virginia, playing primarily right tackle before anchoring the left side as a senior in 2019. That season he earned Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year, first-team All-Big 12, and AP third-team All-America honors. San Francisco selected him in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
McKivitz spent his early seasons as a reserve and swing tackle before injuries to other linemen opened a starting job in 2023. He started all 17 regular-season games plus all three playoff contests that year, including Super Bowl LVIII, a 25-22 overtime loss to Kansas City. In September 2025 he signed a three-year, $45 million extension to remain in San Francisco through 2028.
