Derius Davis has carved out a role as one of the Chargers' most electric field-position weapons, even as his path to a bigger receiving workload remains crowded. Undersized but explosive, he built his college reputation as a five-year TCU Horned Frog before Los Angeles bet on his return skills.

Path to the league

Davis played five seasons at TCU, developing into a dangerous punt returner who scored on five punt returns in just 44 attempts for his career. He was a key contributor in TCU's run to the 2022 national championship game, breaking 100 receiving yards in that contest. The Chargers selected him in the fourth round, No. 125 overall, of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Davis won the Chargers' starting punt returner job as a rookie and scored his first career touchdown on an 87-yard punt return against the Jets on Monday Night Football. That rookie season earned him Second-Team All-Pro honors as a punt returner. He has since added flashes as a receiver, catching his first career touchdowns in the final weeks of the 2024 season.

2025 season recap

Davis remained primarily a return specialist in 2025, playing behind a deep Chargers receiver room that included Ladd McConkey, Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnston and rookie Tre' Harris. He logged 77 yards on 11 punt returns and 484 yards on 18 kick returns across 11 games, adding two catches for 10 yards on offense.
