Louisville-bred 49ers back whose 2025 role shrank to special teams after a promising rookie year.
Isaac Guerendo is a San Francisco running back drafted in the fourth round in 2024 out of Louisville. After flashing as a rookie, he was squeezed out of the offensive rotation in 2025 and used mostly on special teams. He entered 2026 working back from an offseason pectoral tear.
Path to the league
Guerendo finished his college career at Louisville and was selected by the 49ers in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft. He stepped into the backfield rotation behind Christian McCaffrey early in his pro career.
2025 season
Guerendo did not play an offensive snap in 2025. After entering camp with a chance to be McCaffrey's top backup, he lost the role and the 49ers traded for veteran Brian Robinson. He was used only on special teams, finishing with 100 kick-return yards across 14 active games, after recording 420 rushing yards and four touchdowns as a rookie in 2024.
