A three-star recruit out of Newport High School in Bellevue, Washington, Slater started 44 games at Sacramento State from 2021 to 2024, playing left guard and left tackle. He was a two-time first-team FCS All-American in 2022 and 2024 and a three-time first-team All-Big Sky selection. The Titans drafted him in the fifth round, 167th overall, in 2025.
