Lions QB whose 2025 season set career highs across the board and locked Detroit into NFC contention.
Jared Goff's 2025 season was the cleanest of his career. 4,629 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, a 111.8 passer rating, 72.4 percent completions, all career highs. Detroit went 14-3 and reached the NFC Championship Game before losing to the Rams. The quarterback the Rams gave up on in 2021 has now started in two NFC title games for the Lions.
Path to the league
First overall pick by the Rams in 2016. Led Los Angeles to Super Bowl LIII as a third-year starter, then watched his role shrink under Sean McVay. Traded to Detroit in March 2021 alongside two first-round picks and a third in exchange for Matthew Stafford. Reinvented himself in the Dan Campbell era.
Career highlights
Four Pro Bowls (2017, 2022, 2024, 2025). Detroit's first playoff win since 1991. NFC Championship Game appearances in 2023 and 2025. $217 million extension signed in 2024 made him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in football. Career: 41,000-plus passing yards and 270-plus TDs.
2025 season recap
Career bests in essentially every passing category. Detroit's offense led the league in points and yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught a career-best 129 passes, Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 1,400 yards, and the offensive line stayed healthy. Goff's quick release and Ben Johnson's old system (now under new OC John Morton) made the offense almost impossible to slow.
What to watch in 2026
Detroit drew the easiest schedule in football by projected opponent win totals. Goff is 32 in October and under contract through 2028. The Lions opened at +1500 to win Super Bowl LXI, fifth in the NFC. After two NFC title-game losses in three years, the question for Goff isn't whether he can be a No. 1 seed quarterback. It's whether he can finish the job in January.
