Jaylon Carlies is a linebacker who spent his entire college career at safety before the Colts converted him to the position as a rookie. A fifth-round pick in 2024, he flashed as a first-year starter before a shoulder injury cost him most of his second season.
Path to the league
Carlies played four seasons at Missouri from 2020 to 2023, appearing in 49 games with 39 starts at safety. He led the Tigers in interceptions in 2021 and 2022 and in tackles in 2022 and 2023, finishing his college career with 221 tackles, three sacks and nine interceptions. The Colts drafted him in the fifth round, 151st overall, in 2024, and moved him to linebacker.
Career highlights
As a rookie in 2024, Carlies recorded 36 tackles, one sack and a pass deflection across 10 games with six starts, adjusting quickly to his new position after four years at safety in college.
2025 season recap
Carlies underwent shoulder surgery in April 2025 that sidelined him for most of the year. He was activated from injured reserve on December 6 and made his season debut in Week 14 against Jacksonville, closing out the year working his way back into the Colts' linebacker rotation.
