Jordan Hancock flipped his commitment from Clemson to Ohio State and became a key piece of the Buckeyes' championship secondary, playing everywhere from outside corner to slot to safety. Buffalo took him in the fifth round of the 2025 draft, betting on his versatility and elite athletic testing to develop into a rotational defensive back.

Path to the league

A consensus four-star recruit out of North Gwinnett High School in Georgia, Hancock originally committed to Clemson before flipping to Ohio State. He played four seasons for the Buckeyes from 2021 to 2024, developing into a two-year starter who helped anchor Ohio State's 2024 national championship defense.

Career highlights

Hancock's signature moment came in 2023 against Rutgers, when he returned an interception 93 yards for a touchdown and earned the Thorpe Award's National Defensive Back of the Week honor. As a senior in 2024, he started most games in the slot and finished with 48 tackles, eight passes broken up and an interception while helping Ohio State win it all. He tested exceptionally at the combine, running a 4.42-second 40-yard dash with a 41.5-inch vertical jump, and the Bills drafted him in the fifth round, 170th overall, in 2025.

2025 season recap

Hancock made Buffalo's roster as a rookie defensive back, working in a depth and special-teams role behind the Bills' starting cornerbacks. He recorded 22 tackles in his rookie season while continuing to develop the positional versatility that made him a valuable Day 3 pick.
