A former first-round Bills cornerback still hunting for the breakout season his draft slot promised.
Kaiir Elam entered the league as a first-round cornerback out of Florida with the size and ball skills to be a shutdown corner. Four years and two organizations later, he's still trying to find a consistent role, now working to reset his career on a new roster.
Path to the league
Elam starred at Florida from 2019 to 2021, finishing his Gators career with six interceptions, 26 passes defended and a forced fumble in 35 games. He earned First-Team All-SEC honors in 2020 and was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team in 2019. The Buffalo Bills traded up to select him with the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Elam opened his rookie season with 41 tackles and two interceptions across 13 games for Buffalo, flashing the physical tools that made him a first-round pick. He struggled to hold down a starting job consistently over his three seasons with the Bills, and the club moved on from him in 2025.
2025 season recap
The Bills traded Elam to the Dallas Cowboys during the 2025 season. He started seven of his ten games with Dallas but was beaten regularly, allowing three touchdowns and a 105.0 opposing passer rating, and the Cowboys waived him before the end of the year after declining his fifth-year option.
