A record-breaking Syracuse passer who led the nation in yardage before a sixth-round fall to the NFL.
Kyle McCord is a quarterback who went from backing up C.J. Stroud at Ohio State to putting together one of the most prolific passing seasons in the country at Syracuse. After a sixth-round selection by Philadelphia in 2025, McCord has since signed on with the Green Bay Packers to continue developing behind the scenes.
Path to the league
A top-ranked recruit out of St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, McCord spent three seasons at Ohio State, taking over as starter in 2023 and going 11-1 with 3,170 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. He transferred to Syracuse for 2024, where he threw for 4,779 yards and 34 touchdowns, ranking No. 1 nationally in passing yards and completions and becoming the school's first 4,000-yard passer. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted him 181st overall in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
McCord's 2024 Syracuse season stands as one of the best statistical years by a quarterback in the country that year, and it earned him second-team All-ACC honors and a 10th-place finish in Heisman Trophy voting. At Ohio State, he directed a game-winning drive against Notre Dame in the final two minutes during the 2023 season.
2025 season recap
McCord spent his entire rookie season on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad after being waived and re-signed in August 2025, without appearing in a regular-season NFL game. The Green Bay Packers signed him to a futures contract for 2026, giving him a new opportunity to compete for a roster spot.
