Luke Basso spent five years at Oregon working his way up from preferred walk-on to the Ducks' full-time long snapper, and now he is in Denver competing for a roster spot on special teams. He signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 draft, adding competition at a position the team has not seriously contested in years.
Path to the league
Basso attended Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon, where he was rated among the top long snappers in the country. He joined the Oregon Ducks as a preferred walk-on in 2021, redshirted as a freshman, and worked his way into game action in 2022 before taking over as the full-time long snapper in 2023.
Career highlights
Basso handled long-snapping duties in 39 total games at Oregon and earned back-to-back First-team All-Big Ten honors in 2024 and 2025. His college resume was strong enough to draw an invite to the 2026 Senior Bowl, a rare honor for a specialist at his position.
