Matt Gay has been one of the more accomplished kickers of his generation since converting from soccer to football at Utah. Now with the Las Vegas Raiders, he brings a Super Bowl ring and a Pro Bowl selection to a new locker room.

Path to the league

Gay made 30 of 34 field goals as a sophomore at Utah in 2017, winning the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top placekicker, then followed it up with a second-team All-American season in 2018. He ranks third in Utah history with 56 made field goals. Tampa Bay drafted him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

After stints with Tampa Bay and on Indianapolis' practice squad, Gay found his footing with the Los Angeles Rams, making 60 of 64 field goals (94 percent) over his final two seasons there and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2021. He helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI in February 2022. He later signed a then-record four-year, $22.5 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts, and in Week 3 of the 2023 season became the first kicker in NFL history to hit four field goals of 50-plus yards in a single game.

2025 season recap

Gay connected on 17 of 23 field-goal attempts (73.9 percent) in 2025, including 4 of 9 from 50 yards or beyond, and made all 26 of his extra-point attempts. It marked a below-average season by his own standards after several years as one of the league's most accurate kickers.
