Pat Freiermuth arrived in Pittsburgh as a polished receiving tight end out of Penn State and has since developed into a consistent chain-mover for the Steelers offense. Nicknamed 'Baby Gronk' during his college days for his physical style, he has built a career defined by reliable hands and red-zone production.
Path to the league
Freiermuth set a Penn State freshman record with eight receiving touchdowns in 2018 and was named Big Ten Tight End of the Year as a junior in 2020, the first Penn State tight end to win the award. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the second round, 55th overall, of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Freiermuth caught 60 passes for 497 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2021 and posted a career-high 732 receiving yards in 2022. He signed a four-year, $48.4 million extension in September 2024 after a career-best seven-touchdown season.
