A Virginia native who took a detour through the CFL before landing a shot at cornerback with the Colts.
Rob Carter Jr. is a 5-foot-10 cornerback who built his game at two different colleges before proving himself north of the border. After a standout 2025 season with the BC Lions, the Indianapolis Colts brought him back to the NFL on a reserve/future contract, giving the ballhawking corner another crack at a roster spot.
Path to the league
Carter began his college career at Virginia-Wise, appearing in 22 games and racking up 77 tackles, before transferring to Robert Morris for his final two seasons. At Robert Morris in 2023-24 he totaled 42 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 12 passes defensed and three interceptions, including a pick-six. He went undrafted in 2025.
Career highlights
Rather than sign an NFL futures deal right away, Carter joined the BC Lions of the CFL in May 2025 and quickly became a playmaker in their secondary. He earned NEC Player of the Week honors during his Robert Morris career after a 92-yard kickoff-return touchdown, and his 2024 senior season included four interceptions.
2025 season recap
Carter played 18 regular-season games for the BC Lions in 2025, recording 51 tackles, five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and a forced fumble. The BC Lions released him in January 2026 so he could pursue NFL opportunities, and the Colts signed him to a reserve/future contract days later.
