Romello Height's college career wound through Auburn, USC, and Georgia Tech before he found his best form at Texas Tech in 2025. San Francisco drafted him in the third round in 2026 to be a nickel pass rusher, addressing what had been one of the roster's clearest needs.
Path to the league
A three-star recruit out of Dublin High School in Georgia, Height began his career at Auburn before transferring to USC, then Georgia Tech, and finally Texas Tech for his sixth and final college season. The 49ers selected him with the 70th overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Height's breakout moment came at Georgia Tech in 2024, when he recorded a game-sealing strip sack on Cam Ward to help the Yellow Jackets upset then-No. 4 Miami, finishing that season with 34 tackles. He also battled through a shoulder injury at USC in 2022 before bouncing back the following year with 20 tackles and four sacks.
2025 season recap
In his lone season at Texas Tech, Height started all 14 games and posted career-best numbers with 38 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks, earning first-team All-Big 12 honors. That production made him a third-round pick and positioned him as a designated pass rusher for San Francisco as a rookie.
