An undrafted punter who set an NFL record in his pro debut and has quietly become one of the league's best.
Ryan Rehkow is the punter for the Cincinnati Bengals, an undrafted signing out of BYU who won the job as a rookie in 2024 and immediately made history. He set the NFL record for gross punt average in a game during his professional debut and has only built on that start since.
Path to the league
Rehkow punted four seasons at BYU (2020-2023), earning First-team All-Big 12 honors as a senior in 2023 after leading the conference in punting average. He went undrafted in 2024, signed briefly with the Kansas City Chiefs, was released, and then signed with Cincinnati in July 2024, where he beat out the competition for the starting job before the preseason even ended.
Career highlights
In his NFL debut on September 8, 2024, Rehkow set the league record for gross punt average in a game at 64.5 yards on four punts, including an 80-yard punt that remains the longest in Bengals franchise history. He was named to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team and signed a two-year contract extension with Cincinnati in February 2025.
2025 season recap
Rehkow improved on his record-setting rookie campaign in 2025, punting 65 times for 3,285 yards with a 50.5-yard average across all 17 games, up from his 49.1-yard average as a rookie, while also placing 28 punts inside the 20-yard line.
