Path to the league

Johnson played college football at Weber State, an FCS program, and was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He quickly settled in as Buffalo's slot defender and held that job for the better part of eight seasons.

2025 season

In his eighth season with the Bills, Johnson played 13 games with eight starts, logging 57 tackles, four passes defensed and a tackle for loss. Pro Football Focus graded the year at 60.5 overall.

Move to Las Vegas

Buffalo released Johnson ahead of free agency as the defense shifted toward a 3-4 base under a new coordinator. In March 2026 the Bills traded him to the Raiders, with Buffalo sending a sixth-round pick and receiving a seventh-rounder in return. Johnson will compete for a starting job in the Las Vegas secondary.
