Tavierre Thomas is a defensive back and special teams contributor for the Minnesota Vikings who came up through Division II Ferris State.

Tavierre Thomas built his NFL career the hard way, going undrafted out of Ferris State before earning a roster spot and developing into a core special teams player. He joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2025 free agency and played a full season. He agreed to a new deal to stay in Minnesota in 2026.

Path to the league

Thomas played 45 career games at Division II Ferris State from 2014 through 2017, finishing with 175 tackles, 35 passes defensed, and 14 interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. He was named GLIAC Defensive Back of the Year in 2017 after a season with 60 tackles, 18 passes defensed, and four interceptions. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent.

2025 season

Thomas signed a one-year contract with the Vikings on March 12, 2025. He appeared in all 17 games, working primarily on special teams. Per reporting on his usage, he played 371 special teams snaps and just 18 snaps on defense.

Looking ahead

Thomas agreed to terms on a new contract to remain with the Vikings in 2026. The deal was reported to be worth $4.6 million over two years, keeping him in his established special teams role.
