Tommy Townsend built his reputation as a precision directional punter during a four-year run in Kansas City that included back-to-back Lombardi Trophies. After two seasons in Houston, he heads into 2026 with the Titans, bringing a track record of pinning opponents deep and rarely missing time.
Path to the league
Townsend began his college career at Tennessee before transferring to Florida in 2016, where he became the Gators' starting punter in 2018. Over four seasons he punted 93 times for a 44.8-yard average and was twice a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. He went undrafted in 2020 but signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and won the starting job as a rookie.
Career highlights
Townsend won Super Bowls with the Chiefs following the 2022 and 2023 seasons, earning First-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2022. Over his four years in Kansas City he averaged 47.4 gross yards and 42.8 net yards per punt across 66 games. He was also named to the NFLPA's inaugural player-voted All-Pro team.

Punting for the Houston Texans in 2025, Townsend averaged 47.6 yards on 72 punts with a 41.6 net average and pinned 28 kicks inside the 20, tying for fourth-most in the league. He was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his Week 17 performance in a win over the Chargers.
