A Texas Long Snapping Hall of Honor inductee, Tucker Addington turned a two-year gap out of football into a long-running NFL journeyman career at long snapper.
Tucker Addington is a long snapper who took an unusual road to the NFL, going undrafted out of Sam Houston State, spending two years away from the sport, and then working through the USFL before latching on with a string of NFL teams. He signed with the Miami Dolphins in 2026 after previous stints that included Miami's practice squad, New England, Washington and Houston.
Path to the league
Addington won the starting long snapper job at Sam Houston State as a true freshman in 2016 and held it for four seasons, appearing in 34 games for the Bearkats through 2019. He went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft and spent two years outside professional football, working as an assistant coach for the Texas Long Snapping organization, before the Houston Gamblers took him in the 2022 USFL supplemental draft.
Career highlights
Addington was inducted into the Texas Long Snapping Hall of Honor after posting the fastest recorded snap speed in the organization's testing. His USFL stint with the Gamblers in 2022 led to an NFL opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, and he made his NFL regular-season debut that year with the New England Patriots. He has since appeared in NFL games for New England, Washington and Miami.
2025 season recap
Addington spent the 2025 offseason on a reserve/futures deal with the Houston Texans after previous practice-squad time with the Patriots, Dolphins and Jaguars in 2024. He signed with the Miami Dolphins in March 2026 on a one-year deal worth $1.15 million, continuing his run as a well-traveled specialist across the league.
