Former Vikings fifth-round back whose 2025 season was cut short by a knee injury.

Ty Chandler spent his first four NFL seasons in Minnesota after transferring from Tennessee to North Carolina for a standout final college season. A knee injury limited him to just three games in 2025, but he has shown flashes as a change-of-pace back and kick returner throughout his career.

Path to the league

Chandler played five college seasons split between Tennessee (2017-20) and North Carolina (2021), rushing for 2,015 yards with the Volunteers before transferring. In his lone season at North Carolina he ran for 1,092 yards and 13 touchdowns, adding 15 receptions, and earned second-team All-ACC honors. Minnesota selected him in the fifth round (169th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Across four seasons with the Vikings, Chandler carried the ball 181 times for 710 yards and three touchdowns, added 30 receptions for 212 yards, and returned 15 kickoffs for 386 yards. His best statistical season came in 2024, when he appeared in all 17 games and rushed for 182 yards.

2025 season recap

Chandler's 2025 season was derailed by a knee injury that kept him out of 14 games. He returned to action in Week 17, closing out his time in Minnesota before moving on in free agency.
