Tyrus Wheat has bounced around the NFC since going undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2023, building his reputation as a high-motor edge defender and core special-teamer. After a stop in Detroit, he is back with the Cowboys organization that first signed him.

Path to the league

Wheat was a three-year starter at Mississippi State known for his versatility and non-stop motor, capable of playing along the edge or as an off-ball linebacker. In his final college season in 2022, he recorded 54 total tackles, six sacks, two passes defended, two fumble recoveries and an interception, but went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft and signed with Dallas as a free agent.
