San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said he wants to "focus on the players that are here," declining to field further questions about Brandon Aiyuk's status as training camp opens. Aiyuk remains on the reserve/left squad list and is not on the 49ers' 90-man roster.
How did Aiyuk end up in limbo?
Aiyuk landed on the reserve/left team list in December after he stopped going to the team's facility for rehab and cut off communication with the organization. Lynch has previously indicated Aiyuk played his final snaps for San Francisco and that the team hoped to trade him this offseason, but no deal has materialized.
What has Aiyuk said publicly?
Aiyuk has posted on social media vowing he will "never be stepping in that building" again, with one notable exception: when the 49ers host the Washington Commanders on Oct. 19. The comment has kept the standoff in the headlines even as both sides have otherwise gone quiet on specifics.
