Chad Ryland Kicks Six Field Goals, Scores All 18 Points in Cardinals' Upset of the Rams
Arizona won 18-16 as a 13.5-point underdog on Ryland's 43-yarder as time expired, the season's biggest upset by point spread. It was the first time since 1929 one Cardinal accounted for all the team's points in a win.
Arizona Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland made six field goals, the last a 43-yarder as time expired, to beat the Los Angeles Rams 18-16 at SoFi Stadium. The Cardinals were 13.5-point underdogs, making it the biggest upset of the season by point spread.
How did it end?
The Rams went ahead 16-15 on a Colby Parkinson touchdown with 47 seconds left, and an unnecessary roughness penalty on Los Angeles helped Arizona move into range for Ryland's winner. A week earlier he had missed a 53-yarder against Detroit. "I never want to see six kicks again unless they're extra points," coach Mike LaFleur said.
What records did he set?
His 18 points were the most by a Cardinal who scored all of the team's points since Ernie Nevers scored 40 in 1929, and the most by an Arizona kicker since Jay Feely's 25 in 2010. Six field goals tie for the second most in a game in team history, behind Jim Bakken's seven in 1967, and it was the first six-field-goal game in the league this season. Arizona snapped an eight-game losing streak against NFC West teams; both of its wins this season came at SoFi Stadium.
