Brian Schottenheimer Says He Loves the Cowboys' Players-Only Meeting That Mike Tomlin Panned
Dallas' defenders met on their own after the home loss to Tampa Bay. Schottenheimer called it productive and is moving coordinator Christian Parker to the booth for Sunday night at Green Bay. Tomlin, now an NBC analyst, said such meetings mean 'you're dead.'
Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday he has no problem with a players-only meeting his defense held after last week's 24-16 home loss to Tampa Bay. "I love it," he said, adding that he was told it was "productive" and "very open and honest."
What happened in the meeting?
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown disclosed it Monday, saying the players "went by bullet point, bullet point" through whether they were meeting the team's standards. Schottenheimer said it showed "everyone's rowing in the same direction" and that "we're going to get it fixed." The Dallas defense ranks 31st, allowing 395.4 yards per game, after finishing 30th last season.
What is changing on Sunday?
First-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker will call the game from the booth at Green Bay, and rookie linebacker Malachi Lawrence will play more. Mike Tomlin, the former Steelers coach now working as an NBC analyst, said on the New Heights podcast that when a team holds a players-only meeting, "I think you're dead," and that he would rather not hear about one.
