Packers' Tucker Kraft Activated Off PUP After ACL Recovery

The tight end will start with individual periods only, still short of the nine-month mark the team typically waits for before clearing a player for full 11-on-11 work.

The Green Bay Packers activated tight end Tucker Kraft off the physically unable to perform list Friday, less than nine months after surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. It's his first on-field work since tearing the ligament last November against Carolina, though coach Matt LaFleur said he'll be limited to individual periods for now, with no team drills.

How is Green Bay bringing him back?

LaFleur said the plan is to ease Kraft back into the process through individual work and walk-through periods, giving him reps to hear calls and get lined up without the physical risk of full-speed 11-on-11 drills. General manager Brian Gutekunst said the team will be cautious about the timeline rather than rush him.

Why the caution?

Kraft is roughly eight and a half months removed from surgery, just short of the nine-month mark the Packers typically wait for before clearing a player returning from a torn ACL for full team drills. That caution is standard practice for ACL recoveries, even for a player as eager to return as Kraft.

What's the target for the season?

Kraft said last month that he intended to practice at some point in camp and be ready for the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 13 without limitations. Friday's activation off PUP is the first concrete step toward that goal, even if full participation is still weeks away.
