Panthers Owner David Tepper Adds $500M to Stadium Renovation, Extends Bank of America Naming Rights
The new investment pushes the Charlotte project to $1.3 billion as the team eyes a Super Bowl bid and the 2031 Women's World Cup.
Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper is putting an additional $500 million into the team's ongoing stadium renovation, pushing the total cost of the Charlotte project to $1.3 billion. The announcement came alongside a long-term extension of the stadium's naming-rights deal with Bank of America, which has held naming rights since 2004.
How big is the renovation now?
Funding for the project was first established in 2024, when the city of Charlotte agreed to cover $650 million of an initial $800 million renovation. Tepper Sports and Entertainment also agreed at the time to fund any cost overages. Tepper's new $500 million commitment brings the total investment to $1.3 billion, a substantial jump from the original scope, and covers work aimed at overhauling the fan experience at what remains Bank of America Stadium.
What's the goal behind the added investment?
The expanded renovation is aimed at positioning Charlotte to host major events, including a possible Super Bowl, an NFL draft, and the 2031 Women's World Cup. The project is expected to be completed by 2030. Extending the terms are not fully public, but the bank's decision to re-up rather than let the deal lapse signals confidence in the venue's continued redevelopment.
What's the naming-rights deal?
Bank of America has held naming rights to the Panthers' stadium since 2004, and the two sides have now agreed to a long-term extension, though the financial terms have not been disclosed. The extension was announced in tandem with Tepper's new stadium spending, tying the bank's continued branding to the reimagined venue rather than to the current structure alone.
