Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby Scuffle at Raiders Practice
The quarterback and star pass rusher exchanged words and grabbed jerseys after Crosby hit Cousins twice in a team period, before teammates stepped in.
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins and pass rusher Maxx Crosby got into a scuffle during Friday's training camp practice, with teammates and coaches quickly stepping in to separate them.
What triggered it?
During the Raiders' eighth camp practice, Crosby hit Cousins twice on the arm during a team period. After the second hit, Cousins confronted Crosby, grabbing his jersey before words were exchanged and players from both sides moved in to break it up.
How is the team framing it?
Coach Pete Carroll's staff treated it as a product of camp intensity rather than a real conflict. "Those are two leaders on our team going at it," said offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. "Obviously, fighting in a game [or] you throw a punch in a game, you are out of the game. So we got to be smart." Tight end Michael Mayer defended Cousins's response: "You want him to defend your team. He's always had [that edge] since the first day I met him when he came in here."
Is this typical for Crosby?
Crosby didn't back away from his physical style. "When you get out there and bullets are flying, I'm not thinking about not finishing the play. That's just not in my nature," he said. The same practice also saw a separate scuffle between defensive lineman Jonah Laulu and guard Caleb Rogers, underscoring the physical tone of the session.
