Klint Kubiak on the Raiders' Final Play Against the Chiefs: 'I Blew It'
A late play call led to an illegal shift and a game-ending interception in a 30-27 loss that moved Kansas City to 4-0. Kubiak also passed up a field goal on fourth down in the third quarter.
Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak took the blame for the last play of Sunday's 30-27 loss to Kansas City, when he could not get the call in quickly enough, the offense was flagged for an illegal shift and Kirk Cousins was intercepted by Xavier Nwankpa. "Total missed opportunity. So I blew it," Kubiak said.
What else did he second-guess?
A fourth-and-2 in the third quarter with the Raiders down 13-10. Kubiak went for it after a Chiefs penalty and Cousins' pass to Ashton Jeanty was broken up. "I took three points off the board. I don't regret it. I regret not getting it," he said. On a later fourth-and-2 he kicked a 48-yard field goal: "Fell short the first time, wanted to get points."
How did the locker room react?
Las Vegas scored late on a Brock Bowers touchdown and a two-point conversion before the final sequence. Cousins said taking a delay-of-game penalty might have been better than rushing the snap. Maxx Crosby said the team believes in Kubiak "100 million percent." The Raiders are 3-1 in his first season.
